Axiotron Modbook

January 6, 2009

This is on my list of “things I want to do if I ever get the money together.”

The Axiotron Modbook has been out officially for about a year, but its roots began at Macworld two years ago where it took the Best of Show award.

The concept is simple. Take a Mac and make it into a tablet computer complete with stylus and everything. Work is done directly on the screen and get a great level of control. You can either buy a new computer with the modifications already made, or send in the Macbook you have now.

The only complaint I have is the price. New computers start around $2,300 while the modification can be done for $1,299. Of course both of these make sense when you think about it. The cost of the computer is controlled by Apple and the process involves adding a new special monitor.
